What do Boy Scouts Do?

Boy Scouting is a Troop- and Patrol-centered program and is designed to build and foster lifetime skills.

A Troop is made up of several patrols that work and hike and camp together. A boy immediately learns that his fellow Scouts are trying to live by a unique set of rules; rules that stress trustworthiness, loyalty, honesty and reverence.

Among the activities offered are: more than 120 hobby and career skills available through the Merit Badge program, year-round camping and outside activities, an honor camping society, recognition, leadership training, service projects and special events.

What Does Scouting Cost?

A Scout will need to pay an Annual Registration and Insurance Fee. All Scouts pay this fee that goes directly to the national office. Scouts also have the option of purchasing a subscription to Boys' Life Magazine. He will also need to purchase a Scout handbook, and may want to purchase a Requirements Handbook and Boy Scout Fieldbook as well. These are available at any of our Scout Shops. Many troops also charge annual dues. Contact the Council Office for information on specific fees.

Camping and Outdoor Programs

Patriots’ Path Council provides Boy Scouts the opportunity to enjoy the great outdoors at Camp Somers located in the Mt. Allamuchy Scout Reservation in Stanhope, New Jersey; at Winnebago Scout Reservation located in Rockaway, New Jersey; and the Sabattis Adventure Camp located in the Adirondacks of Long Lake, New York. These camps offer Scouts an opportunity to experience sailing, swimming, rifle and shotgun shooting, archery, ecology, fishing and much more.
